Nanit Baby Monitor | Review
As soon as I found out I was pregnant with my first child, I immediately immersed myself into the world of baby products. As a new mom, it can be extremely overwhelming trying to decide what product you want to use and where to save and where to indulge. There seems to be thousands of options in every category, and tens of thousands of opinions to read and hear about. Picking a monitor was probably the most difficult choice I made when it comes to necessary baby products.
I was told by many how they loved the nanit, and others said it was too much of a splurge and that non WiFi monitors will do the job. Ultimately I went for a non WiFi hand held monitor, which we did like… however on a recent trip to the outer banks with a group of 7 other families, we were the only parents left stuck in the house when our daughter napped because our monitor didnt reach the extra 20+ feet onto the beach of our beach front property. I watched as other parents were able to quickly open an app to see how their child was doing at nap
Time, while simultaneously being able to enjoy some alone time relaxing on the sand. The fact that my husband and I could potentially be able to actually enjoy ourselves alone and know that our daughter is safe and sound during her 2.5 hour daily nap would be a game changer in our lifestyle. My husband and I love to travel and plan to take our 1 year old daughter along with us to various hotels and airbnbs. We thought splurging to buy this monitor would he well worth it.
However, I was concerned that due to the secure network being a necessary factor for the nanit to work, we would have issues taking it on trips where hotels typically don’t host secure networks. After doing some research, I found a simple solution parents use, which is purchasing a mini travel router that would connect to the local WiFi, and then create a secure network for you to connect all of your personal devices to. I purchased THIS TP-Link N300 Wireless Portable Nano Travel Router(TL-WR802N) - WiFi Bridge/Range Extender/Access Point/Client Modes, Mobile in Pocket
one from Amazon.
We are planning on using our nanit this week on another beach trip and are excited to try out this router solution. In the meantime, we have quickly adapted to the nanit monitor and are big fans of the convenience and ease of checking in on our daughter from the comfort of our own phones and not needing to worry about carrying around a monitor and plugging it in to charge throughout the day. I will report back after our travels with an updated review!
